Free Anas Abu Srour - arrested in the West Bank by the Israeli army

I write to ask you to transmit to the Foreign Secretary and to Lord Ahmad my concern for the well-being of Mr Anas Abu Srour,  arrested by the Israeli army on 28 November.

Mr Abu Srour is a 35 year old Palestinian with a wife and young family. He is  the Executive Director of the Aida Youth Centre in the Aida Refugee Camp,  Bethlehem, and is a vital member of that community.

He is a man of unimpeachable honesty, integrity, honour and humanity working to better the lives of young people. He is known to and respected by the Balfour Project charity.

The Israeli authorities have given no details about Anas’ arrest, including where he was arrested, on what charges, and where he is now.

The current Israeli clampdown in the occupied West Bank is terrifying for Palestinians, particularly for men like Anas, who are being rounded up and arbitrarily detained by Israeli forces. Israel has been enforcing the mass imprisonment of thousands of Palestinian men, women and children under its policy of administrative detention (a practice from the British Mandate period) which Israel uses to detain Palestinians for months on end without charge or trial.

Anas Abu Srour is committed to peaceful means of supporting the young people living in the Aida Refugee Camp and is avowedly a non-violent humanitarian.

Through your good offices, may I call upon FCDO to instruct HM Ambassador Tel Aviv now to press the Israeli authorities to release Anas.

I look forward to seeing the reply you receive from FCDO Ministers.
